U.S., British govts might be forced to resign if war in Iraq begins - Belarussian president
MINSK. March 19 (Interfax-West) - Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko has not ruled out that the U.S. and British governments might be forced to resign in the event of war in Iraq."The Middle East would be set on fire. [Oil] wells would be torched. This would lead to an environmental catastrophe, killing U.S. and British soldiers. Once zinc coffins will start to arrive, the government will not be able to stay in power," Lukashenko told national television on Wednesday.
The president believes that France, Germany, Russia and China, with their opposition, "have only incited America to go ahead with its plans." "They should not have taken out their sabers and gone against America with them. Rather, they should have been more delicate in their diplomatic efforts. The United States is a monster and we should not forget about this," he noted.
Commenting on Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's diplomatic steps, Lukashenko said that "if I did not know him (Hussein), I would have never thought that he could take such steps. Saddam did everything possible to avert a war."
The president stressed that "America is an aggressor. The U.S. aggression against Iraq is the first explicit aggression since World War II," he said. [BY EUROPE EEU EMRG IQ POL US FR DE CN] tm aw <>
